七套商品房 Seven Condos（2001-2003）
From the 1990s onward, Zheng Guogu and his friends worked in the architectural and interior design industry under the name of “Young Man”. After several years of working on commission to design spaces for clients, Seven Condos (2001-2003) is the first time Zheng Guogu commissions himself to realise an architectural design. He was interested in building a personal residence that is parasitic in a larger public architecture, finally accomplishing his “architectural ideal”.
Seven Condos is the primary residence of Zheng Guogu and his family, meaning that the relationship between the architectural space and its residents required more thoughts and considerations. For that, Zheng Guogu has discovered the pattern of co-existence between plants and other plants, as well as plants with humans through his continuous experimentation.
The project of Seven Condos was a precious experience for his more challenging architectural experiments that were yet to come. In the building of Yangjiang Group’s studio which started in 2009, we can see the influence from the interior of Seven Condos, while the rooftop ecosystem at Seven Condos indicates its deep connections with the future Liao Garden.
